Currently, interaction with industrial systems is mostly done via a single user interface, such as a touch screen, mouse and keyboard. A promising approach to implement greater intuitiveness and user-friendliness lies in the combination of several forms of interaction.
For this reason, we extended a conventional POD input with touch to include control via voice commands as part of a showcase. Voice control is considered particularly intuitive and offers advantages, especially in situations where both hands of the employees are required.
In our experiment, the voice commands were used to navigate between work instructions. The voice control was implemented with a custom extension in SAP DMC and a JavaScript Web Speech API.
In this example we have configured the plugin to recognize the commands “Next” and “Back” and based on these commands trigger the actions that display the next or the previous work instruction.
