Siemens Energy and Global Transformation with SAP Digital Manufacturing

Challenges at the heart of the digital revolution

Siemens Energy, a leading company in the energy sector with an annual turnover of over 34.5 billion Euro and approximately 102,000 employees worldwide, was facing a major challenge. Its production facilities worldwide were equipped with over 180 different applications and systems, resulting in inefficient processes and extended production times. This heterogeneous landscape was a major obstacle to the company’s efficiency and scalability.

The path to a solution

The project was launched in September 2021 to create a harmonized MES landscape. The goal was to develop a standardized Manufacturing Execution System (MES) that can seamlessly integrate into SAP ECC resp. SAP S/4HANA. Existing requirements and the current situation were recorded in detail through interviews at over 19 production sites.

The solution was to form product-related clusters, each of which would map the main features of the requirements and enable the use of a standardized tool landscape in the future. Together with the implementation partner Syntax, SAP Digital Manufacturing was selected as the MES for the target landscape. Due to the enormous size of the project, additional implementation partners, including concircle, were brought in to provide support.

concircle’s role and contribution

Already in 2023, concircle was –  thanks to the strong partnership with Syntax – significantly involved in the development of the global template that was to be rolled out worldwide. The SAP Digital Manufacturing consultants and software engineers from concircle not only designed the global template, but also actively supported its implementation in the flagship plants, including different locations in Germany. In 2024, concircle took over the management of the rollout in 3 plants in Brazil and further supported the implementation in one plant in Germany.

Matheus Renan Araujo Focal Point in TAM CP (a factory in Jundiai) emphasized the importance of the project:

Following intense months of effort, our factory launched the SAP DM in early May! As the energy market and customer demands rapidly change, it’s crucial for our factories to embrace digital operations. SAP Digital Manufacturing offers a robust cloud platform for managing production, enhancing transparency, and steering us towards becoming a data-driven organization. concircle’s team was instrumental in this transition, diligently aiding us in reaching our objectives.

Conclusion

The ongoing transformation at Siemens Energy through the implementation of SAP Digital Manufacturing is a prime example of how global digitalization initiatives can change the face of industrial manufacturing. The comprehensive and centrally managed approach has not only enabled Siemens Energy to optimize internal processes, but also lays the foundation for continued innovation and efficiency on a global scale. concircle played a crucial role in this change process and will further work with the main implementation partner Syntax to continue the success story of Siemens Energy.

It is important to mention that Syntax/concircle team was crucial for the project´s success in Carepole. Despite the 5-hour time difference, the dedication of the team has been great.
