Increased planning reliability through integrated and holistic production planning

The family business from Neumarkt in der Oberpfalz combines tradition with innovation. Since it was founded in 1929, Burgis has been involved in the production and sale of convenience products. Since 2017, the company has specialized exclusively in dumpling dough and dumplings in line with its slogan “love for dumplings”.

Initial situation & goals

Production planning used to be a very time-consuming and labor-intensive process that repeatedly resulted in incomplete planning or overproduction. The lack of planning reliability also caused high order fluctuations.

Burgis was therefore looking for a solution to increase planning efficiency. The new system should ensure holistic, integrated and realistic production planning that takes into account both stock and capacity availability as well as possible downtimes.

Solution

The increase in planning reliability and the integration of the planning tool into the new system landscape was achieved with the SAP add-on conOperationScheduling (conOS).

The planning tool integrated in SAP software incorporates all relevant planning aspects required for successful production. Short-term planning changes in particular are easy to implement and the resulting effects on overall planning are displayed immediately. There is no need to change transactions or refresh manually. This flexibility enables efficient and accurate planning even in a turbulent market situation.

In order to make production planning as efficient as possible, changes were also made to the structures and processes within the company in the course of implementing conOS. Before we could start planning in conOS, the settings for the MRP run were adjusted and a program was developed to correctly import the sales quantities into the ERP.

• As a central planning system, conOS is fully integrated into the SAP ERP landscape, while capacity utilization and coordinated planning with the shopfloor ensure a uniform reflection of the production plan.
• It is used both in planning control and in production and enables the teams to be more agile in the event of order changes.
