Focus on efficient supply chains and flexibility in production

Due to digitalization, the need for graphic paper – mainly printing paper, for example for newspapers – has been declining for years. Despite the radical upheaval in the industry, the outlook is positive overall. This is due, for example, to the growing demand for hygiene and packaging paper, as a result of the booming online trade including package orders. But product innovations are also playing an increasingly important role, for example in the packaging sector. The industry is concentrating on measures to increase flexibility (small quantities, greater product variety) as well as on productivity increases in the value-adding processes. This includes the optimization of supply chain processes or continued automation in the area of vertical (L2 – L4 integration) and horizontal integration (EDI with suppliers and customers, but also automated internal workflows).
